Danny Doyle Concert Review

The fun began Saturday, October 24 when Dan Duwelious and I picked Danny up at the airport that afternoon.  We took him on a nickel tour of Des Moines, did the sound check and proceeded to have a quick bite to eat at the Court Avenue Brewing Company.  After our meal we decided to pick up a couple of kegs of ale to bring back to the concert.  Being the man that he is, Danny kindly helped us wheel out the brew and load up the truck.

After Danny had a brief rest at his hotel he arrived at Holy Trinity at 7:30 and did a bit of socializing.  At 8 o'clock sharp Danny began his three hour concert.

The audience of 200 plus welcomed Danny into their hearts.  Not once did we experience an din from over zealous concert goers.  It was an intimate night of great Irish ballads that included The Wearin' Of the Green, The Rising Of the Moon, Step It Out Nancy, and The Green Fields of France.

We perfected our sound and stage setting at this concert.  The stage was moved from the corner of the room and moved to a central position.  This created the best acoustics of any concert so far.  We plan to keep using this format for the future shows.

Just after intermission, Meg Casper brought in her troop of Ceili dancers and gave us a dancing demonstration.  Then Danny played for another hour and a half and finshed the concert with his version of Four GreenFields.

After the show, some concert goers adjourned to Cooney's Tavern where Danny's wit and historical commentary continued to entertain.  Before his flight home Sunday, Danny treated the CMA Hospitality Committee to breakfast at Michael's Restaurant.  We wish our best to one of the finest and friendliest entertainers the CMA has experienced and look forward to when our paths will cross again.
